Royal Holloway continues to invest in award-winning halls of residence for our students. Our latest development opened in September 2007 providing modern en-suite accommodation with data cabling in self-catering flats.

Royal Holloway offers students a variety of accommodation, the majority of which is available on the main campus within a few minutes' walk of all the teaching and social facilities. This is a major advantage over most other universities in the London area, while Royal Holloway students still have good access to the vitality of London life, just over half an hour away by train. Our accommodation is also more affordable than central London.
Halls vary greatly in size, appearance, age and atmosphere. There are catered-pay-as-you-go, or self-catered halls, and you may opt for mixed or single-sex designated areas. As a resident in a catered hall, you are entitled to a discount of approximately 50% off the normal price of the majority of food items you purchase in all three Dining Halls (please note that meals are not included in the published accommodation rates.) This offers you the flexibility of being able to choose when and where you take your meals and how much you spend each week.
All halls provide comfortable accommodation, good value for money and a friendly community in which to live. No matter which residence you choose, a dedicated team of wardens will look after you, ensuring that you are provided with a safe and comfortable home throughout your stay in hall.
You can come and visit halls of residence during Campus Tour Days
All undergraduate new students who firmly accept a conditional or unconditional offer of a place at Royal Holloway and apply for Student Housing by the specified deadline are prioritised for a place in hall for their first year.
Students who accept a conditional or unconditional offer as an Insurance place will be considered for accommodation on a first-come-first-served basis as students' first choice universities release them and the students firmly accept academic offers at Royal Holloway.
Unmarried students whose homes are outside the European Union* can live in halls of residence for the normal duration of their degrees - three years for most undergraduate programmes - as long as they apply prior to the deadline in each year, are full-time and enrolled by September 2008. Students who are enrolled after September 2008 will be considered for accommodation on a first-come-first-served basis. It is not possible for us to accommodate all students who bring their families. Married students should be certain of what arrangements are possible before they arrive in the UK.
(*An international (overseas) student is defined as a student who is not an EU citizen, not ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom or the European Union, and who is not included in the count statutorily contracted with HEFCE, the Higher Education Funding Council for England. Overseas students are liable for full overseas tuition fees.
All offers of accommodation in hall are made through the Student Housing Bureau, where staff are dedicated to helping students find a suitable place to live. Further information is available online.
The Student Housing Bureau is responsible for allocating hall accommodation for undergraduate students on our waiting list. If you are allocated a place, you will receive an email from the Housing Bureau offering you a room and you will have ten days in which to accept it. There is only one accommodation waiting list for all applicants - Insurance choice candidates and those who apply to Royal Holloway in Clearing are added on to the waiting list and hall places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
We encourage students to register on the Student Housemate scheme if they have applied late and would like to explore other options in the private sector rather than wait for a possible hall place to become available. Registering with the Housemate Scheme will not change your priority with regard to College accommodation.
There is currently a good supply of rented properties in the local area on our own housing list and through local housing agencies. Our Housing Bureau offers help with matching students registered on the Housemate Scheme to these properties
